Go to the other end of the spectrum and you practically remove the horror elements entirely in favour of a vaguely spooky shooter. Make the weapons weak or remove them entirely and you’ll create a tense, oppressive atmosphere that’ll terrify players for weeks to come. The tone of a survival horror game is often dictated by the strength of the weapons you get to play with. Well, we’re deciding to celebrate all of the best ones, and today it’s the turn of Dead Space and Isaac Clarke’s trusty Plasma Cutter. The fewer you carry, the more ammo you have for that one.Gaming is filled with a host of iconic weaponry, whether they’re huge tools of destruction or something that challenges you to rethink your environment. There are execeptions to this as there do seem to be predetermined loot drops (you always get a line rack pack in Chapter 3's lift after the stasis door) but for the most part, the game tailors its drops to your weapons. In particular elite crawlers are annoying as you have to spend 6 bullets to shoot off all 3 tentacles.Īlso, by only using one weapon, you ensure that all ammo drops are for that weapon i.e if you only carry the plasma cutter you will only get majority plasma ammo. The only area where it can struggle is against large amounts of elite necromorphs, as it takes an extra 6 or so shots max to kill them, and they are most common in packs. One of the only guns you can go positive ammo on without buying extra rounds at shops (though I do recommend having at least 2 extra stacks.) Maybe one extra shot if you mess up.Įach enemy has a chance to drop 6 bullets. Even on max difficulty, the plasma cutter kills in 4 shots on normal enemies: Two to the legs, then two to an arm.
